- Trance... A word that has been used and abused frequently in recent years to describe whatever style of electronic dance music fashionable at the time. So what is it really?
- Actually it's probably impossible to define what trance is. Trance is more than just music. It is the whole feeling of being one with the music, of drifting away mentally while you're body is moving along to the sweet sounds on the dance floor.
- Anybody who over the years has been enjoying the sound of KLF's "What Time Is Love" at The Land Of Oz, Dance 2 Trance's "We Came In Peace" at Dorian Grey, The Age Of Love's "Age Of Love" at The Omen, Energy 52's "Cafe Del Mar" at Space or Cosmic Baby's "Heavens Tears" at Dubmission will know what I am talking about.
- The feeling is hard to describe. It is a feeling of pure happiness. Of being truly free from the trouble of everyday life. Basically a feeling of being in a state of... trance.
- For me it all began pretty early. Through the early electronic sounds of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and Cabaret Voltaire I soon got into that strange new sound from Chicago called house music. From there it was not such a big leap to trance. Dancing away to "Alone (It's Me)" by German techno god Torsten Fenslau's Abfahrt at The Coma in Copenhagen, I found out that the early days of techno were being brought back to life through this new style of music. And I was ecstatic.
- In the years that followed I travelled all over Europe, and the scene was almost identical everywhere: Smiling faces, good vibrations and fantastic tracks. In Frankfurt, Berlin, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Milan, Ibiza, London and Hamburg. Everywhere I went the trance scene was huge and ever growing.
- And now 11 years later it is bigger than ever. The trance sound, which originated from Germany, is now truly universal. In recent years I've been getting trance records from places like The United States, Australia, The Middle East, Japan, South America etc. And it has taken over the commercial charts too. So trance is now a musical super power.
- This compilation features some of the tracks that have been making magic on the floors in the past two years, and some new tracks that will be doing the same in the near future. From the hard trance sound of DJ Jan and Condor II to the hymns of DJ Tiësto and Johan Gielen. From the psychedelic sounds of Astral Projection to the amazing vocals of the Conductor & The Cowboy. All trance, all sweet, all guaranteed dance floor action.
- If you are into trance already, you will know. If you are not, you will be hooked after listening to this compilation. Enjoy!
